In re Puerto Rican Cabotage Antitrust Litigation

Three settlements totalling $52 million have been preliminarily approved in In re Puerto Rican Cabotage Antitrust Litigation, which alleges price fixing by Jones Act shipping companies for ocean shipping services between the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Under the settlement agreements, Sea Star, Crowley, and Horizon Lines have agreed to certain base-rate freezes in addition to the monetary component. The rate freezes enable customers to avoid rate increases for a two-year period following the effective date of the settlement. Heins Mills & Olson is co-lead counsel for Plaintiffs.
