Examples Of Our Leadership
Our lawyers continue to serve as lead counsel for consumers victimized by one of the largest data security breaches in retail history. During the 2013 holiday shopping season, computer hackers stole credit and debit card information and other personal information of an estimated 97 million customers of Target. The court has granted final approval of a settlement requiring Target to make a $10 million cash payment to the class and to improve its data retention and security practices.
We are a member of the Financial Institutions Plaintiffs' Steering Committee and Law & Briefing Committee in a case against Home Depot. The action arose from another of the largest payment card security breaches in history, affecting some 58 million customers. Our clients include banks and credit unions across the country with collective assets of approximately $115 billion.
Our attorneys served as co-lead counsel in multistate litigation against major telecommunications companies and utilities to vindicate the rights of landowners whose property was used for the installation of fiber optic cable without compensation. To date, a total of 40 state settlements have been approved in an aggregate amount of approximately $62 million.
Heins Mills & Olson, P.L.C., represented classes of consumers nationwide in alleging consumer fraud, civil conspiracy and unjust enrichment claims against manufacturers of lawn mowers and lawn mower engines. The firm's leadership resulted in nationwide settlements with all defendants.
